Why Brooklyn Nine-Nine Isn't Doing It For Me

Image
I was finally able to articulate what exactly it was about B99 that made it fall short of my expectations, having been an alumnus of The Office, Parks and Recreation, Community, Arrested Development, and The Good Place. All these comedies have two kinds of jokes in general: the ones I see coming, and the ones I don't. Unlike the comedies I did not include here, even if I see the joke coming, B99 plus the shows I'm an alumnus of still make me chuckle at the very least. However, B99's predict to not-predict ratio is rather high compared to the other shows. As for the one's I don't see coming, having seen so many sitcoms, this one's actually a misnomer. I pretty much see 90% of jokes incoming. However, jokes classified under here are referring to those who go even further than I expected. Take Community. The set-up is the Dean has become susceptible to guerilla marketing by Honda. Frankie walks into his office and you see him and the room adorned in all Honda. Now

What Do I Like In A Movie Musical? (A RAMBLE)

So I just saw A Star is Born. For the sake of this blog post, let's assume it's a musical. It's my post so I can make assumptions as I see fit, even though the song numbers in ASIB are diegetic, which is to say, the characters are singing in the world in context, unlike, say, Les Miserables where it is clearly an artistic decision since unless you're like me, you don't walk around the streets in the rain ACTUALLY singing about how much you love him on your own. Moving back to the topic, I don't know if I have terrible taste in movie musicals, but I'd lump "A Star is Born" along with "Chicago","The Greatest Showman", and "La La Land" in the Movies-With-Amazing-AF-Soundtracks-But-Mediocre-Execution category. Consider this Category A. There's another class of musicals I'd like to talk about which include Les Mis and Phantom... oh and that ABOMINATION "Across the Universe", but let's call

Final Fantasy Main Casts Ranked

Image
As I lead up to my personal ranking of the games as a whole, I'll be ranking the series based on certain aspects. First up is the cast of characters in each game. Basically, I'm judging these based on how well written the characters are, how memorable they are in terms of design and personality, and their character arcs and development. I'll try to avoid major spoilers in this one, but be warned, minor spoilers follow. 13. Final Fantasy The Warriors of Light have zero personality. No, really. They don't say a single word. So zero points for the heroes. The villains are slightly better. I absolutely love the designs on the four fiends, especially Tiamat and Marilith. Garland is also a great villain, but that's pretty much it for this one. 12. Final Fantasy III In the original, the heroes had zero personality, but I played the PSP remake, so they had... a little personality.  Xande sucks ass as a villain. Cloud of Darkness has a really memorable desi

Top 25 Final Fantasy Moments

Image
After a particularly exhausting day, I've decided to start my Final Fantasy blog series to commemorate me finishing all thirteen numbered single-player games in the series. Yay. So I have about nine blog posts lined up, all about my favorite video game franchise ever, Final Fantasy. For this first post, I am going to revisit some moments from all the games I've played. Spoiler alert for all mainline single player games. For the record, I had a list of 82 moments I wanted to write about. Cutting them down to 25 was not an easy task. Without further ado, let us revisit some moments from this amazing franchise. 25. Final Fantasy - Chaos is Garland Let us begin with where it all began. My experience with FF1 was weird. I wasn't a good enough player to deal with the charge based magic system of the PS1 version so I replayed it on PSP with the MP system, which I preferred. Yeah, I'm a pleb. Anyway, I did reach the final dungeon in my first playthrough on the PS1
